I love a snow day.

They’re definitely one of my favourite kind of days.
Although here in the uk everyone moans about the snow and the entire country comes to an absolute standstill.
I still think they are quite magical and absolutely beautiful.

So I choose to embrace the snow day – and here are my three reasons why :

Take the opportunity to slow down:
Remind yourself that slowing down can be even more fruitful than speeding up. In fact, I have my most meaningful “lightbulb moments” when I close the laptop and tell myself I’m “done” with work for the day.

Enjoy time with the kids:
I am at my most stressed when I  have those rushing-around-working-the-whole-time moments. So why do it? Put work and house chores aside for an hour or two and spend some fun quality time with the kids.

Be spontaneous:
 honestly, how fun?! Will the afternoon include movies? Games? A snowball fight and a warm up by the fire?
Instead of stressing out about what I will or won’t get to do, I’m just welcoming this unexpected snow day with open arms.

So, can we all agree to put the laptops down for just a few hours and bring back the joy of a good-old-fashioned snow day?

then carry on reading, because here are my top five things to do on a snow day . . .

BE LAZY!

Today, give yourself permission to be lazy.
Most of the time we feel a great deal of pressure to use free time “wisely” and crack down on all the things you should be doing. Instead, embrace the opportunity to recharge. You could meditate, do yoga, take a warm bath, play video games all day—whatever relaxes you and re-energises you —for the shoveling that’s to come.

GET OUTSIDE!

Sledging is the ultimate snow day activity, so it’s has to be on the list of things to do when it snows; head to the local park, find a big hill and sledge your way to the bottom! Why not have a race to see who will win?
Yes I know it’s all cold and wet outside, but these obstacles are easily overcome.
you can pick up waterproof snowsuits cheap online, layer extra jumpers and tights or leggings under trousers. A great tip for NOT getting wet hands when building your snowman/woman, is to wear a pair of disposable latex gloves underneath your woollen gloves or mittens! Disposable feet heaters and hand warmers are a must if your planning on staying out for a while. They are literally a life saver – just stick them to the bottom of your feet and inside your gloves and you’ll be toasty for hours!

SNOW PAINTING!

You’ve all heard the saying ‘don’t eat yellow snow’, but why not have a go at creating some yourself using food colouring? Fill spray bottles or even water pistols with cold water (hot water will melt the snow!) and add in a few drops of food colouring. Then, let your kids loose to create a snow masterpiece that’s perfectly safe.
Make as many colours as you like and see what they can come up with! 

WATCH BUBBLES FREEZE!

This is another great way to add some science fun into your snow day activities list, as you put the freezing point of water to the test! Pick up a tube of bubbles (or dish soap), and gently blow bubbles, before catching them on the blower. You’ll need to make sure you’re sheltered from any wind and that it is actually below freezing for it to work! Give it a minute or so and you should see the solution start to freeze – try filming it in slow motion for an even closer look!

MAKE A HOT CHOCOLATE STATION!

Sometimes the best thing about the snow is not having to leave the house and face the cold! Raid the cupboards and whip up some delicious hot chocolates, top with marshmallows, cream and sprinkles for a real treat. Pop in a DVD, load up Netflix and get comfy on the sofa with loads of blankets to keep warm.
You could even try building a mini fort using blankets – it’s the perfect way to weather the snow storm.
