Homeschooling week four

Homeschooling in our jammies!
One small step for saving the planet, one giant leap towards less laundry!

If I’m totally honest …. I haven’t done any laundry for a whole week now (how utterly disgusting are we!)  and yet the washing baskets aren’t even overflowing! It’s a crazy way of living. I’ve usually done so many loads of laundry in a single week, with all the school uniforms, work uniforms, school club outfits etc etc but we’re just enjoying the pyjama life this week! I’m sure we’re not the only ones – were just brave enough to admit it πŸ˜‰

So here’s what we got up to this last week.

Monday

Straight to work with an English lesson. Creative writing! We chose to write a newspaper article about the Titanic, as that’s our subject this β€˜term’. We researched about the ship, how many people survived and those who unfortunately did not and got to work on our newspapers. After lunch it was the dreaded maths class. Long multiplication and number lines. I really, really don’t like maths class, but the kids seem to help each other and got the hang of their work. We had face time with the grandparents and a spot of arts and crafts, where we made our twirlywoo’s.

Tuesday

We started the day watching one of the locals in our neighbourhood perform a magic show online. The girls enjoyed it, which gave me the chance to drink my coffee in peace, ha! Next up was cursive handwriting practise and English SATs revision. I know my eldest has missed her SATs exams this year but I’d rather her keep on top of her revision than to forget about all she has learned in school. Later we designed our very own sun catchers with ice cream shapes and glass paints, you can easily buy these art supplies online, I like to use Baker Ross Ltd.  Such a fab company with so much fantastic stock to keep those little hands busy!

Wednesday

On Wednesdays . . . We dance! My girls have dance classes after school normally but as were in lockdown we can’t. So their fantastic dance teacher has been Keeping them active and teaching them online, I’ve not joined in yet, but the girls seem to have so much fun … but it does look like hard work! So it’s an extended lunch break to recover!  . . Next up. More maths! – but I actually enjoyed this class, I felt proud, I imparted my wisdom onto my children and I taught them their 9 times tables, with the easy finger meathod! Oh my gosh I was so chuffed!

Thursday

Thursday morning was completely out the window. As mummy and daddy stayed up far, far too late watching movies the night before that daddy left me in bed and it was noon when I woke up! I know, the shock! How very dare I! But we still managed to squeeze some schooling in. We had an β€œepicβ€œ biology class.
We drew around our bodies, printed pictures of our internal organs out and we had to stick them on, I also threw in a pop quiz with each organ too about what their functions are and why they’re important to us. Bonus points all round!

Friday

Fridays school was cancelled, much to the kids dismay. Mummy needs a day. All this lack of sleep has really caught up with me this week. I swear, I’m some kind of walking zombie at the moment. Really need to sort this out! We did however craft a lot today. We made wind chimes, we reused tin cans into wind catchers, we crocheted and we coloured in and most of all β€” we stayed in our jammies, yet again and we chilled and just spent the day together and
It. Was. Bliss!

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I couldn’t be any prouder of my children with how they have been during this whole pandemic. It’s hard for us all being stuck in the house for such a long period of time. With just each other for company.  Let alone how the kids must be feeling not being allowed out and missing all their mates.

We’re such an outdoorsy kind of family and we really aren’t used to being stuck indoors for so long and it has taken some getting used to, especially with the weather being so poor this week there hasn’t been much outside play.
But we’re making the most of the time we have together – because I’m sure there will come that day when I’m missing them.
For now, we’ll keep going strong.
We’ve continued to decorate the house – only one room left to go and it’s all complete, inside and out . . . well almost – this week was the master bedroom and it’s looking lush! We have our online quizβ€˜s with our friends – which is always a giggle, a trip to the post office to send our grandparents mail, my youngest has even asked me to teach her how to crochet now she’s seen her sisters blanket coming along ; and of course there’s the daily exercise of yoga and bike riding.
It’s all good. We got this.

Here’s hoping for next week. There’s still so much to learn!

happy adventures

These are excellent choices for lessons. As a veteran educator and mom, I’m impressed. My son and I have been enjoying a somewhat more relaxed curriculum, which is primarily dictated by his interests that day. I think we’ll try the internal organs activity you mentioned here soon.
