I donβt know about you – but one of my goals as a parent is to give my kids the best childhood I possibly can.
For each family that childhood may look different, but the one constant thing is that we want our kids to have good memories of growing up. We want them to have memories that make them laugh all those years later, that bring tears to their eyes and that remind them of how much they are loved.
As a mum, watching myΒ kids grow up brings such mixed emotions β Iβm excited about all the new things that they will learn and experience – but myΒ mummyΒ heart wants them to stay little for just a little while longer.
Looking back at your younger years, donβt you have a few specific childhood memories that really stand out?
I know I do…
1. Have a Game night
2. Make dinner together
3. Play in the snow / build a snowman
4. Picnic on the beach
5. Go on an individual date
6. Star gaze
7. Watch a sunset
8. Go on a bike ride
9. Go camping
10. Take a hike
11. Make traditions
12. Have a slumber day
13. Have a back garden fire night
14. Fly a kite
15. Take a class together
16. Attend a festival
17. Make homemade pizza
18. Set family goals
19. Build a fort together
20. Have a midday dance party
21. Watch the clouds
22. Plant a flower / vegetable garden together
23. Make a family collage
24. Throw a themed party
25. Make party decorations
26. Write a short story together
27. Bake cookies for other family members
28. Do volunteer work
29. Run a colour run together
30. Have breakfast in bed
31. Throw a holiday scavenger hunt
32. Road trip
33. Leave special messages for the kids to find
34. Have a backyard movie night
35. Play messy twister
36. Skip rocks at the lake
37. Swim in the sea together
38. Climb a mountain or a big hill
39. Sit and listen.
40. Be present.
No matter how many activities you do together if you arenβt present and engaging in the moment the memories just wonβt be the same. The best gift you can give to your kids is being present and enjoying being with them.
What favourite memories do you have from your childhood? How do you intentionally unite your family? Β Do you have family dates?
Iβd love to hear about your familyβs favorite ways to stay connected!
happy adventures
