Oh Sunday I do love you but why do we have to wake up so early today?
Yesterday we had a spur of the moment trip to Blackpool! I know, I know, Blackpool. It’s a tad run down and a bit of a dive but what-the-hey! Why not? We’ve relaxed all morning, it’s Saturday, the Blackpool Illuminations are lit and we have no plans!
So we jumped in the car and off we went. Arriving at 6pm just in time for the switch on at half past! Winner!
The kids were so excited. They love Blackpool. They don’t see the run down, dirty back streets, drunken hens and stags. Instead they see the pretty lights, the colourful rides, hear the cheers of the children and clinking of the 2p machines. If you look past what it is, it is actually a magical childhood place.
As a child I have so many memories of visiting Blackpool and I am so fortunate that I get to share these with my children. They love it now just as much as I did back then.
We spent a few hours playing on the slots, 2ps of course. My girls felt like billionaires spending their (small amount of) cash whichever way they wished. It was such an awesome feeling for me seeing them so happy. Next, we took a stroll down the Central Pier where we let the kids loose on the fair ground rides. What a blast we had! Carousels, merry-go-rounds, dodgems, the Yankee flyer. Oh their little faces, what a picture! So happy!
A steady stroll, beach-side, away from the hustle and bustle of the nightlife to the South Pier through the illuminations was bliss. The children were running with excitement, more lights, more rides and more 2ps! Woo hoo!
We caught the tram back to the central pier … and lucky for us it was free! I think it’s only a small fare but the ticket man just didn’t get to us in time! Woo hoo! A final drive down the promenade through the illuminations to see them in all their glory with the kids hanging out the windows to take in the all their brightful shininess was lovely… long … but worth it!
Was it worth it when we arrived home at almost 2am this morning knowing we had plans for today?
Of course! … just pass me the coffee!
Viva la Blackpool!
happy adventures
