I love this place!
Friends, fun, sand and sea, that sounds like summer to me!
Newquay is my soul home. From the moment we had out first visit here, to now, i absolutely love it! It’s an awesome place to visit. From the beaches, the shops, the chilled out – laid back lifestyle. Itβs so relaxed and just what we needed as a little family break away with friends.

So we’re heading off to Cornwall. We’re all packed up (yep! mum did everything from cleaning, packing, washing, shopping, pet accommodation etc etc), dad played Tetris in the boot of the car with all our suitcases and junk, strapped the kids in and we’re off! Just look at how excited we are π
The journey down is a little bit long from where we are in Staffordshire but it’s totally worth it once you’re there. We set the kids up in the car with DVD players, a toy box between them to share, nibbles and activities and they did a great job of being pretty well behaved all the way. Thumb up kids! ππΌ I was amazed at how many mums i saw on the motorway driving fully laden cars with the kids in the back going camping! Mums – you rock!
Five and a half hours later and we arrived. Parched and ready to hit the bar and of course sample a few of the local beverages!
Newquay
Being known as the surfing capital of England, Newquay’s main attraction is its beautiful beaches (12 in total!). We spent a week in Newquay literally relaxing everyday on these beautiful sandy beaches looking out to sea, listening to the locals play their take-it-easy music on the rocks with guitars, bongo drums and thumb pianos ( you can see them on the cliffs behind me below). Oh my gosh this was heaven for me! The girls were wet-suited up for the sea where they body boarded to their hearts content, built sandcastles, ran around, caught jellyfish and even did a spot of cliff jumping (with parental supervision of course!).
All amenities are close at hand on Towan Beach,Β this is the beach at the bottom of the high street. There’s an aquarium centre with toilets available to the public, shacks and huts with food and drink supplies, lockers, surf board rentals, wet suit rentals, day trips, there are even pretty little beach houses that you can rent for the day. So cute! Towan beach is clean and very well supervised by the lifeguards. Perfect for families.
Fistral Beach
Just a short distance the other side of Towan you will find Fistral beach – the home of surfing! You will find hundreds of surfers here riding the waves, which is brilliant to watch. Fistral beach is softly sandy, clean and has life guards on duty during the summer months.Β On shore there are plenty of opportunities to book surf lessons or hire gear and an array of cafes, takeaways and boutiques that are located on the beach.
We spent the whole day at Fistral, soaking up the sun and swimming in the sea. The children caught a few jelly fishes in their buckets, built sandcastles and ate ice creams from the parlour. Newquay town is just a few minutes walk from Fistral, the high street stretches the entire length of the town and is dotted with individual and local shops, restaurants and cafes as well as national names all mixed in with surfer shops and boutiques.
The Harbour
The Harbour Beach has the softest sand of all Newquay beaches. Here you canΒ enjoy a trip out to sea to see the ocean wildlife. Pleasure trips run regularly from the harbour and some particular ones are sea βsafariβsβ – they seek out dolphins, seals and other marine wildlife! Awesome!Β There are no lifeguards on Harbour Beach β although families are usually quite happy to let their children splash about at the waterβs edge.
The harbour is one of Newquayβs most picturesque locations and has its own small beach to relax on with a restaurant by the beach, and several other restaurants and pubs overlooking it – a firm favourite of ours was βThe Fortβ – the food and views here were amazing! β Nothing feels quite so traditionally Cornish and relaxing as watching the fishing boats coming home with those spectacular sea and beach views in the background.
However you decide to spend your visit in Cornwall I can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Happy adventures
